Here are some insight into some of the secrets to making more money as an Uber driver. There are all kinds of strategies for how to make more money driving for Uber, some more, others less successful. It is crucial to not just drive around, but to know your game. So how can you make more money as an Uber driver?
In general, when you drive for Uber, think of your Uber fares in terms of an hourly wage. This will give you a clear unit to measure your success with (as opposed to thinking in terms of daily income, etc.)
So our goal is to maximize that ‘hourly wage’. After all, you’re doing it for the cash that remains with you, not to spend it all on gas. It can make a substantial difference. You’re not just an Uber driver, you’re basically an ‘Uberpreneur’, which means you have to be efficient and cost-conscious.
So here are the first 5 basics:
1. Think in terms of ‘hourly wage’.
This will give you a measure and unit to work with, to compare, etc.
2. Track your miles for tax deductions.
3. Use “Gas Buddy” to get the cheapest gas in your area.
Gas Buddy is a great app that allows you to find the cheapest gas close by.

4. Drive a fuel efficient car.
Some of the best cars to drive for Uber or Lyft are:
- Toyota Prius
- Honda Civic
- Ford Fusion
- Toyota Corolla
- Hyundai Sonata

5. Don’t drive around without a passenger.
Our goal is to improve our ‘hourly wage’, so driving around without a passenger will increase your costs and lower your ‘hourly wage’. If you drop a passenger off in the middle of nowhere, it makes sense to drive back to a more dense area, but that’s about the only exception.
