Uber St. Louis –  There are three rideshare types available in the St. Louis region:

1. UberX (a low-cost service which seats up to four passengers)
2. UberXL (a low-cost service which seats up to six passengers)
3. UberBLACK (a high-end option, featuring black cars with black leather interiors, which seats up to four passengers)

The current rates for St. Louis Uber services are as follows:

UberXL
Base Fare: $3
Per Minute: $0.30
Per Mile: $1.80

Per Minute: $0.45
Per Mile: $3.55

UberX/XL requirements

UberX/XL requirements

  • Driver must be at least 21 years of age
  • Drivers aged 21 or 22 must have (at minimum) 3 years of valid licensing in the USA
  • Drivers aged 23 (and up) must have at least one year of valid licensing in the USA
  • Drivers must provide a valid MO driver’s license.
  • Drivers must pass a screening process (details below)
  • Drivers must have an accepted vehicle (check below for additional info)

UberX/XL Vehicle Requirements

As a company, Uber doesn’t own or operate any vehicles (all Uber Vehicles are driver-owned or leased). If you want to drive for Uber, you have to use your own private vehicle.

  • Vehicle must have 4 doors that open independently.
  • Vehicle must be from the year 2005 or newer.
  • Vehicle must be a clean title (no salvage vehicles are allowed).
  • Vehicle must be in excellent condition (cosmetically & mechanically).
  • Vehicle cannot be a former taxi vehicle, or large van.
  • All of the points listed above apply equally to XL.
  • All XL vehicles must seat the driver AND at least 6 additional passengers
  • UberX/XL document requirements:
  • All Uber drivers must provide these documents for their Uber account to be officially activated:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle Registration

Background Check/Screening Process

New drivers must undergo a screening process (by a company called Checkr), for a standard background-check. Once you submit your info, you may look into the status of your Checkr application here: applicant.checkr.com).

Driver's License

Your driver’s license should clearly show these items:

  1. License Issue Date
  2. Your license number
  3. Your Date of Birth (DOB). You must be 21 Years of Age (or older) to be an Uber Driver
  4. License Expiry Date

St. Louis Hotspots -- High Demand Areas

Once you’ve become a driver, it’s worth taking into account St. Louis’ ‘hotspot’ locations, which have the highest customer demand — and which are great areas to concentrate your driving energies, in order to optimize revenue.

Weekend Demand:

  • Most in-demand areas:  DowntownCentral West End, and Clayton
  • Demand on Saturday is thirty-percent greater than Friday demand
  • In St. Louis, over 50% of ALL TRIPS happen between Friday and Saturday. In other words: concentrate on the weekend!

Weekday Demand:

  • Demand spikes during three regular times: Morning, ‘Lunch’ and Evening
  • ‘Morning’ = between  6A.M. to 9A.M.
  • Lunch = between 11A.M. to 1P.M.
  • Evening = between 5P.M. to 11P.M.
