Uber Prices – Uber Cost

How much does Uber cost? What is the cost of an average Uber ride?

If you’re looking for a breakdown of how much a typical Uber trip costs, by city, then check out our full guide below:

Uber Prices – Methodology

Getting a general sense of how much your Uber trip will cost is possible by looking at average trip length & trip duration data in the United States, and then combining that information with UberX rates in your area.

Assuming that the average trip length is approximately 7 miles (as reported by SherpaShare.com), and a typical speed of an Uber trip is 27 MPH (see rideshare speed graphic below), it is possible to determine that trip length for an average Uber trip is around 15 and a half minutes. These numbers allow for a basic sense of Uber costs in a range of American cities.

As an example, take Birmingham, Alabama: With a per-minute cost of $0.18, and a per-mile cost of $1.20, in addition to a base-fare fee of $1.75 and a service fee of $1.30, a typical Uber ride would cost approximately $14.24. *Not bad when compared to a 7-mile equivalent taxi ride, which would likely be 30-70% more expensive.

The list below gives riders a general sense of how expensive a typical Uber trip will be in their city.
